March 3-31, 2008

The combination of word and image in works of art is a potent and often poetic way for the visual artist to arouse the viewer's intellect and imagination. Language, whether as a single word or elaborate narrative, is prevalent in painting and sculpture. Tablets: Text and Image in Clay is an exhibition wherein artists working with clay add to the visual dimension of their work through the addition of text.

Featuring works by Scott Rench, Frederick Bartolovic, Barbara Broadwell, Rick Dunn, Laura Copper Elm, Sarah Haven, Ryan Lawless, Julie Lindell, Laurel MacDuffie, Andrew Maglathlin, Richard nickel, Tara Polansky, Zachary Shaw, Andrew Van Assche.

RED
Santa Fe Clay Gallery
Santa Fe, New Mexico
February 8 - March 8, 2008

The color red truly affects us by raising our blood pressure and respiration.
This may explain its' use as the symbol for passion, love, sex and excitement.

Historically, red has also had political and social meaning. Commoners forbidden from wearing red (the color of the rich and powerful) clandestinely wore red as a symbol of rebellion.

From the simple application of the color red to the emotional, political and historical meanings and uses of red, 80 contemporary artists have created a wide range of engaging works that will raise our blood pressure and leave us a little breathless.

COMPUTER, PRINT & CLAY
International Ceramic Research Center - Denmark
Skaelskor, Denmark
October 22 - 26, 2007

Hands-on workshop - computer, photographic ceramic print techniques, silk screen print & wet clay

The work of Scott Rench represents the next generation of ceramic artists, who fuse today´s technology with one of the oldest traditions in art. He uses the computer in his artwork to illustrate, manipulate, and compose the elements for each piece. It allows him to create several versions of a concept while refining it along the way until there is a version that successfully conveys the vision.
His printing medium is glaze and not ink which presents all sorts of challenges and contributes to the lengthy process. He likes to work wet on wet as it gives more freedom in the work process.

This benfit Exhibition highlights small works, sculptural, functional and decorative objects. Each artist was asked to create a work using a wall mounted plexi-glass cube, 4"L x 4"W x 4"H. What they chose to do with the cube was up to them. Most created objects that fit comfortably within the confines of the box. Some chose to break out of these confines. All however, celebrate the diminutive object and truly demonstrate that size doesn't always matter.

PLUGZINE NO.1 'WHERE TO START?"
ISBN 988-98395-8-x
Publishing Date: Spring/Summer 2005
Book Language: English and Chinese
Pages: 280
Limited edition of 2000

Color Images: Images throughout
Dimensions: 19 x 26.5 cm

Launched at the Get it Louder design exhibition that took Shenzhen, Shanghai and Beijing by storm earlier this year, Plugzine No. 1 'Where to Start?' collects design works by and informative interviews with some of the world's most exciting designers. A luxurious, full-color, high-gloss book, this magazine comes in a limited edition of 2000, and is rapidly gaining cult status in design circles.

Writes the Editor, "Everywhere we go and everything we do has a start, then we fumble around for a hint leading to the end that we are eager for. Not tomorrow, not then - we are ready to start right here and right now. For designers, the profession is to show the world we are living in where everything we know is up for experience, presentation, examination and communication in a visual way. If design is not the hint motivating us where to start, then we don't know what is."

My work is featured on pages 246-254, this is a great book for the money.
